Catalog data: BuildBay vehicle dataset (US market).
- 3.7 V6: S197 (2011–2014) + S550 (2015–2017) base V6.
- 5.0 V8: Coyote architecture in truck calibration — torque-biased cams, different intake and exhaust. Rated well below the Mustang version of the same family.
- 3.5T V6: First-gen (2011–2016) uses port injection and a timing CHAIN; second-gen (2017+) adds direct injection alongside port. Cam-phaser rattle on cold start is the common complaint.
- 3.5T V6: Raptor-specific High Output — different turbos, intercooler and calibration from the standard 3.5.
- 2.7T V6: Compacted-graphite-iron block. Outperforms the naturally-aspirated V8s it is priced against.
- 3.3 V6: Base engine, port + direct injection. Replaced the 3.5 Cyclone for 2018.
- 3.0 V6 diesel: Light-duty diesel, 2018–2021 only. Needs DEF.
Owning and working on it
- Seven engines across the run. The 2.7 EcoBoost twin-turbo V6 at 325 hp outperforms the naturally aspirated V8s it is priced against, and its compacted-graphite-iron block is the detail that makes that possible.
- The 5.0 V8 is Coyote architecture in truck calibration, with torque-biased cams and different intake and exhaust, rated 385 to 395 hp. It is rated well below the Mustang version of the same family, deliberately.
- The 3.5 EcoBoost changed underneath for 2017: the first generation uses port injection, the second adds direct injection alongside it. Cam-phaser rattle on cold start is the common complaint on this engine.
- The 3.0 Power Stroke diesel joined the lineup for MY2018, late in this generation, and needs DEF.
- The Raptor gets a high-output 3.5 EcoBoost at 450 hp and 510 lb-ft, with different turbos, intercooler, and calibration from the standard 3.5.
- Aluminium body panels mean body repair differs fundamentally from the steel trucks before it. Worth knowing before a fender bender.
